What is an Embedded System?

With the rapid development of the technology, the most trending technology among the people is embedded system technology. An Embedded system is a computer based system with pre-defined function within a huge mechanical or electrical system, mostly with real time computing constraints. It is embedded as a part of a complete device including mechanical and hardware parts. Today many devices in use are controlled by embedded systems. Operations which are done behind the main flow are managed by the micro-controllers. Simply an Embedded system found in a well-developed technological car and also in a usual oven in the kitchen. It means embedded systems are common in advanced devices as well as in simple devices.

So called embedded systems are enriched with a hardware component, application software and a Real Time operating system. Real Time operating system is used to supervise the application software. An embedded system is a single functioned system. It is specialized to perform one operation and do it repeatedly. Usually embedded systems are tightly constrained. These systems are developed to react for the changes in the system’s environment as well as must compute certain results in real time without any delay. Microprocessor or micro-controller based embedded systems are found commonly. Memory of an embedded system usually embeds in ROM that is because of its software. These systems have connection with the peripherals to connect input devices and output devices. Most commonly software component is used for more features and flexibility. Same time hardware component is used for performance and security.

In an Embedded System, Sensors are used to measure the physical quantity and store the measured quantity in the memory. A-D converter converts the analog signal sent by the sensor into a digital signal. Processors process the data to measure the output and store in the memory.D-A converter converts the digital data fed by the processor to analog signal again. Actuator is used to compare the given output by the D-A converter and the expected output and approved output is stored. Simply embedded systems are easily customizable, power consumption and cost are low and performance is enhanced. Development effort for an embedded system is high and time consumption for the market also high.

Trends drawn in Embedded development expand towards Artificial Intelligence, Wearable Electronics, Retail, Health Care, and Internet of Things. New trends in AI with embedded development are speech recognition, robotic automation, virtual assistants and much more. Wearable Electronics development has reached to its peak. With embedded development Pebble, FitBit or Apple Watch have revolutionized with enhanced functionalities and battery performance. Customers and Business Owners commonly involved in embedded technology with the aim of reaching a wider market, have good inventory management and used to handle data with sensor-based analytics. With Embedded technology Healthcare becomes much more efficient. Wearable gadgets are common among humans used to monitor, track and alert users about their health related symptoms. Embedded technology center around sensory surgical equipment, tablets and so on. Embedded Systems collaborated with IoT to capture market exhibiting intelligence in offices, homes, Health Care organizations, and factories. Every place linked together with IoT combining with embedded development so that people can manage the daily routine easily. Intelligence programmed with embedded technology to make the world a better place.
